The Lernen to Talk Show: Episode 21 – Der Duisburger Weihnachtsmarkt!

This week’s episode sees the triumphant return of my guests from Episode 12! It also concludes the 2011 Weihnachtsmarkt Trilogy. Join us over a mug of Glühwein as we discuss what Germans eat for Christmas dinner! Be warned, it is also the strangest episode yet…

0:51 – I should really get a better microphone… but then again, it could hear me the whole time! It’s so hard to tell how the sound will be in loud outdoor places.

1:12 – These things are in all the Weihnachtsmarkts, as far as I can tell.

1:52 – Niklas needs to learn how to hold his Glühwein.

2:08 – I could have stopped here with “Wir sind echt.” That would have been a complete sentence… I didn’t realize. I thought “echt” was an adverb!

2:40 – I want one!

4:55 – Man it was cold that night.

5:23 – Schon means “already”, but schön means “lovely” or “nice”. I don’t normally get these confused… but unfortunately the one time I did is now forever immortalized on video.

5:31 – In Germany Christmas Eve is when most of the celebration happens.

5:51 – Rauchen kann tödlich sein. Es kann auch verursachen, dass deine Stimme so klingt.

5:58 – Ali, I am so sorry to have made you film us for so long in the freezing cold.

    1:45 Niklas lacht aus folgendem Grund.Du sagst 6 Theke,es heißt 6 Tage.Eine Theke ist eine Bar,er hat sich das bildlich vorgestellt.Bei 1:51 ist dann Niklas nicht mehr zu halten.Du möchtest 6 Tore sagen,da ein Tor für dich aber etwas großes darstellt,wählst du die Verniedlichungsform und möchtest 6 Törchen sagen,leider sagst du 6Törtchen.Das ist der Grund,warum Niklas sich nicht zurückhalten kann.Ich möchte dir an dieser Stelle ein großes Lob aussprächen,deine Erzählungsform ist sehr ausdruckstark geworden und du solltest dich nicht immer fragen,ob es nun ist,sein oder bist heißt.Glaub mir,vielen von uns Deutschen ist das ein ständiges Problem.Ich für mein Teil,erwarte nicht von einem Nichtmutterspachler das er so etwas beherrscht.Im Laufe des Gespräches wird erwehnt,das dies hier die beste Episode sei,Irrtum,das ist und bleibt vorerst Nummer 18,definitiv!Ich freue mich auf Neues von dir.Liebe Grüße Lars
