The Lernen to Talk Show: Episode 6 – Lebensläufe!

September 6, 2011

This week’s episode is, surprisingly enough, only the second to feature a native German speaker! Jasmine Trikochi (almost certainly misspelled) made an excellent guest, speaking seemingly extra clearly for the show. I still find myself struggling with simple words like “why” and “because”, but I’ve made progress with other words like “stranger”, which came in handy when a random dude almost walked in on our set! It’s been interesting for me to see where I make mistakes, which sometimes happens with phrases that I should really know by now. But that’s the whole point of this show! To show what it really looks like to be speaking without a script in a foreign language. No faking it here.

Thanks to Elisabeth for deftly handling the camera! And of course to Kansas Kate for her invaluable subtitle input!

You’re definitely getting better at both choosing pleasing looking interviewees, and speaking German. I would also like to see some movement for future weeks. Nothing too big, but maybe just going for a walk while you talk or walking around talking to eines fremden.

hey Mickey, your German is fantastisch! Just one tiny little thing…the letter ‘v’ in German is pronounced “fow” (rhymes with ow!) and ‘w’ is pronounced ‘vay.’ So ‘WC’ auf deutsch rhymes, but CV doesn’t. 🙂

Thanks! Yeah, you don’t learn that kind of thing in school. It’s something you just have to experience.
